Argentine football legend loses 9th job after spending only 2 months at the club

- Diego Maradona has left Gimnasia just two months after getting the managerial job

- The 58-year old reportedly quit because of club president Gabriel Pelligrino

- Maradona leaves Gimnasia club third from bottom

Argentina football legend Diego Maradona has left his position as Gimnasia manager only two months into his new managerial job.

The World Cup winner had only started to acquire some form with his new club after a horror start which saw him fail to win the first few matches.

Gimnasia club President Gabriel Pellegrino confirmed the news on local radio station La Red on Tuesday, November 19.

It was gathered that some politics played part in the 59-year old’s decision to walk away.

According to reports, Maradona was only willing to stay if club President Pelligrino also maintained his position.

It is understood that Pelligrino withdrew from the club elections and this seems to have been the reason for Maradona's decision to resign as he was not willing to stick around.

He leaves Gimnasia with the club still languishing in third bottom of the league, although he managed to rack up some points with some good results in recent weeks.

His latest exit from a team sums up his overall managerial career over the last two decades which have been the exact opposite of his playing stint.

Maradona’s longest managerial job was with Al Wasl in the United Arab Emirates where he managed to last 14 months.

He has so far been involved in eight clubs as far as management is concerned, with seven of those stints ending quite prematurely.

Before returning to Argentina with Gimnasia, Maradona managed Mexican side Dorados de Sinalao where he lasted nine months.
