President Muhammadu Buhari, in the afternoon of Sunday, December 1, said he was shocked and saddened by the death of a top Kano businessman, Tijjani Rabiu.
Buhari described the incident as the fall of another star.
The president condoled the family of the deceased and the Kano state government of Rabiu’s demise.
Garba Shehu, one of Buhari's spokespersons, said the president categorically said the death of Rabiu was "the fall of another star in the galaxy of commerce and trade in Northern Nigeria.”
The late Rabiu was the immediate younger brother of the a business tycoon, Isyaku Rabiu, who is also dead.
“The deceased belonged to a business dynasty that has become famous since the birth of modern Nigeria and who has achieved business successes through sheer hard work and determination,” Buhari said.
While alive, President Buhari said, Rabiu trailed the enviable path of his older brother and was relevant in a tough competitive business environment.
Buhari further noted that apart from their successes in business, the Rabiu family had carved a niche for themselves becoming notable scholars.
The president pleaded with the youths of the country to follow the examples of Nigerians who have worked hard to create wealth.
According to him, this is better than seeking shortcuts through fraudulent means.
