Boko Haram insurgents suffer another heavy defeat in Borno state





- Boko Haram insurgents suffer another defeat following a failed attempt to infiltrate 112 task force battalion troops location at Mafa in Borno state

- After the battle which reportedly lasted for about 40 minutes, the terrorists were said to have retreated in disarray after realising that they had been defeated

- The soldiers reportedly inflicted more damage on the invaders when they embarked on a hot pursuit of the scampering insurgents

The Nigerian Army has killed some Boko Haram insurgents who attempted to infiltrate 112 task force battalion troops location at Mafa in Mafa local government area of Borno state.

PR Nigeria reported that a statement signed by an army spokesperson, said, the insurgents who attacked with 5 gun trucks and motorcycles were overcome by the superior firepower of troops of 112 task force battalion in the December 1 incident.

After the battle which lasted for about 40 minutes, the terrorists were said to have retreated in disarray after realising that they had been defeated by the troops.

The soldiers were reported to have inflicted more damage on the invaders when they embarked on a hot pursuit of the scampering insurgents.

During the encounter, the soldiers recovered 3 Boko Haram bodies ( 2 of them strapped with suicide vests). one gun truck, one motorcycle, one anti-aircraft gun, one PKT gun, one rocket-propelled gun tube

Other items that were equally captured by the troops include 2 rocket-propelled gun bombs, 2 AK 47 rifles, 25 rounds of anti-aircraft gun, 723 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 51 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 52 rounds of 7.62 X 54mmR (PKT) ammunition, surgical kits, Boko Haram terrorists uniforms and warm clothing.

Meanwhile, a report by This Day indicates that the Nigerian military is investigating a report suggesting Turkey is supplying sophisticated weapons to Boko Haram.

Egyptian Television, Ten.tv, cited by CBN news channel, had recently reported that Turkey was a major supplier of arms to Boko Haram even as Turkish Airlines had also been accused in the past of shipping arms to Nigeria.

Saying the reported supply of arms to Boko Haram by Turkey was a serious national security issue, Defence Headquarters spokesman, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, said the matter was receiving attention at a strategic level.
