Son's goal not enough to help Mourinho's Tottenham advance to FA Cup 5th round stage

- But a late minute equaliser from Boufal helped the home team book a replay with Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur bottled their chance to cruise to the next stage of this year's FA Cup championship after allowing Southampton to score an equaliser just three minutes from time.

Spurs took the lead in the 58th minute with Heung-min Son breaking the deadlock with a superb goal from a close range.

The South Korean star connected with Eric Lamela's pass from the middle before sending the ball to the bottom right corner of the post.

Meanwhile, a late minute equaliser from Sofiane Boufal in the 87th minute ensured Ralph Hasenhüttl's men force a replay of the round.

The 26-year-old Frenchman fired home from the edge of the box after receiving a superb pass from Danny Ings to share the spoils with their visitors.

Spurs are still without their inspirational striker Harry Kane who has been out injured for some weeks now.

However, Giovani Lo Celso managed to score in the first half but the VAR ruled out for offside after Son was said to have interfered in the process of the goal.

Both sides continued to launch attacking moves against either side but were unable to find the back of the net for the remainder of the half.

Both Lucas Moura and Danny Ings were presented with glaring chances for their respective clubs, yet, they failed to utilise the opportunity when it mattered.

Having gone without a goal in the opening half of the meeting, Son handed his side the lead int he 58th minute.

And in the 87th minute, Boufal leveled parity for the hosts as they are poised for a replay with Mourinho's men early next month at the north Londoners' Stadium.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Nigerian football star Kelechi Iheanacho has continued his goals scoring form after netting in Leicester City's FA Cup at Griffin Park.

The 23-year-old needed just four minutes to fire the Foxes ahead against Brentford after connecting with a pass from right-back James Justin.

Christian Fuchs started the build-up from the left-back position after locating Dennis Praet in the middle who sent the ball down the flanks before the 21-year-old made that precise pass.
