President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Nigerians would in the coming weeks witness an aggressive campaign to rout Boko Haram once and for all.

The Nigerian president made the statement on Sunday, February 23, when condemning the recent Boko Haram attack on Garkida, Adamawa state.

Buhari who also extended his sympathy to families of victims assured citizens that no part of Nigeria would be abandoned to their fate.

He said the insurgents were attacking soft targets out of frustration because his administration had significantly weakened Boko Haram’s ability to invade and hold Nigerian territory unchallenged.

The president said since coming to power, his administration has frustrated attempts by the terrorists to invade and occupy Nigerian territories.

Meanwhile, as Nigeria continues to grapple with security, Catholics across the country have decided to don black attires on Ash Wednesday.

This move is a sign of mourning and solidarity with the victims of kidnapping and other violent crimes in the country.

Premium Times reports that the Catholics Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) released a statement which will be read at masses across Catholic churches on Wednesday, February 26.

In the statement signed by the president and secretary of CBCN, Augustine Akubeze and Camillus Umoh, the church said it is aware of its moral responsibility, while also calling on the government to live up to its responsibility of protecting Nigerians.

The church urged the international community to lend a helping hand to the Nigerian government in the fight against evildoers who are bent on destabilising the country.

The Catholic church decried the repeated executions of Christians by the Boko Haram insurgents, kidnappings and other criminal activities that have left Nigerians traumatised.

In another report, Nigeria's former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has called for unity among Nigerians as the country navigates through its security challenges, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Legit.ng gathered that Obasanjo made the call in Abuja during the burial service of Jennifer Etuh, wife of the chairman, Fertiliser Producers and Suppliers Association of Nigeria (FEPSAN), Thomas Etuh.

The former president said the country would be better off if its citizens see themselves as agents of unity.
