- @jayythedope said that his father did all the house chores when his mother was pregnant with a baby at 40 years old

- The Twitter user noted that men who cook are underrated

Over the past few days, Nigerians took to various social media platforms to discuss gender roles, especially in the home. While some insisted that it was a woman’s duty to cook and clean the house, others maintained that cooking and performing other house chores were basic survival skills irrespective of the gender.

Reiterating the statement of the latter, a young man identified as @jayythedope has taken to the popular micro-blogging platform, Twitter, to tell his parent’s story.

The young man said that when his mum was pregnant with a child in her 40s, his dad had to step in to help with house chores because the pregnancy was not easy for his mother. According to him, his dad cooked, cleaned and did all the house chores including washing his mother’s clothes.

@jayythedope explained that his dad's colleague suggested he got a housemaid while some people thought that his father's actions were not ordinary.

In another post, the Twitter user said that his mother had to stop his father from continuing with the house chores. According to her, it was her duty.

@jayythedope said that even though he felt that his father did too much, he learnt a great lesson from him. He stated that his father also taught him how to prepare local and continental dishes.

In other news, Legit.ng earlier reported that a life coach identified as Praise George advised men to learn how to cook. He explained that a man who knew how to cook cannot be manipulated by a woman. George noted that when a man does not know how to cook, a woman could use food to punish him in ways they could not imagine.
