Bandits impose curfew on Niger communities, kill 3, kidnap 10





- Armed banditry in Niger state has taken a different dimension as bandits take charge of communities unchallenged

- The dare-devil bandits have warned people in some communities in Rafi local government area of the state to restrict their movement

- While the people stay indoors, the bandits have a field day in carrying out their operation, mostly cattle rustling

Armed bandits in Niger state have warned people in some communities in Rafi local government to stop moving between the hours of 4:00 pm and 7:00 am, the period which the people said the bandits operate.

As a result, no member of the communities is seen outside during this period, giving the bandits a leeway to carry out their operations unhindered which are mostly cattle rustling.

The bandits according to a source who spoke to Daily Sun, dropped the warning after killing three people in one of their operations on Saturday, February 23 and kidnapping 10 others.

While the three people including a woman and her daughter were killed at Angwar Bulus and Tungan Makeri communities on Friday, February 22, `the 10 villagers were abducted the next day.

Recall that last month, 11 persons were killed and four women kidnapped as gunmen attacked five communities in Shiroro local government area of Niger state.

Kudodo, Galapai, Dnakpala Makera and Dnalgwa communities were attacked in the early hours of Saturday, January 25.

The bandits moved from house to house to carry out the bloody attack barely one week after they sacked eight communities in the area.
