- The anti-graft agency noted that the money was diverted between 2003 and 2011 while he was Kwara state governor
- Saraki, however, denied the allegations through his lawyer, Kehinde Ogunwunmiju, at the Federal High Court, Lagos
Bukola Saraki, a former president of the Senate, has been alleged to have diverted not less than N10 billion belonging to Kwara state when he was the governor of the state.
Daily Trust reports that this was disclosed on Thursday, February 27, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Legit.ng gathered that the EFCC told the Federal High Court in Lagos that Saraki diverted the sum in monthly tranches of N100 million between 2003 and 2011 while he was Kwara state governor, saying that he spent N1.09 billion out of the N10b federal allocation to build two houses in Ilorin.
While Saraki denied the allegations through his lawyer, Kehinde Ogunwunmiji and opposed the prayer for forfeiture, the EFCC lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo, prayed Justice Rilwan Aikawa to forfeit the houses to the federal government.

In a statement by its coordinator, Comrade Yusuf Olatunji, on Sunday, January 26, the group said that the move by a legal representative to the Saraki family, exploring out of court settlement is a welcome development, but it doubts if such move is not coming late and at the wrong time.
In another report, a public affairs analyst, Abdul Fatah AbdulRahman, wrote on the controversy in Kwara involving the state government and the Saraki family.
