Breakthrough for Nigeria as Imo traditional ruler manufactures 5-minute COVID-19 testing kit

The chairman, Imo state council of traditional rulers, Eze Samuel Agunwa Ohiri, has manufactured a five-minute coronavirus testing kit.

Ohiri an American-trained medical scientist told Daily Sun that the feat was achieved in his medical factory located at Obi-Orodo in Mbaitoli local government area of the state.

According to the respected monarch, the kit took him about two months to manufacture.

His words: “We worked very hard to develop the test kit since early March 2020; we are glad its a success.”

Ohiri explained that the test kit is not only synonymous with its quick response test but also has active radiant to detect antibodies to COVID-19 in human blood samples.

He further stated that the test kit does not require any special equipment, adding that it can be performed in hospitals, clinics and laboratories.

The monarch then assured that his kit would be supplied at cheap rates to various hospitals, clinics and laboratories as soon as it has been validated by appropriate authorities.

He also expressed optimism that it will increase Nigeria’s capacity to test more Nigerians with a view to ascertaining their COVID-19 status.

He disclosed that kit has been sent to regulatory bodies working in-collaboration with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control for validation.

Meanwhile, Nigeria's First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Muhammadu Buhari has contributed her own quota to the fight against COVID-19 in the country.

Hajiya Buhari, through her Future Assured initiative, renovated and equipped a designated building at the Mararraba Gurku Medical Centre, Nasarawa state, to serve as an isolation centre for the management of COVID 19 infected individuals.

The First Lady in a Facebook post stated that it is part of her efforts and commitment to complement government efforts in the response to the COVID 19 pandemic.

The First Lady had earlier donated food items to religious groups at the peak of the total lockdown across the country.
