Sambo Dasuki, the former national security adviser has opened up on allegedly campaigning for the All Progressives Congress (APC) or its candidate President Muhammadu Buhari back in 2015.

Dasuki who served under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan between 2012 and 2015, said he never campaigned for the ruling party nor its candidate in any way during, or after the 2015 presidential election.

According to PR Nigeria, the former NSA disclosed this on Sunday, July 12, in a statement he personally signed.

He refuted media reports that he discreetly campaigned for Buhari and his party APC, while serving under Jonathan.

I never campaigned for APC or Buhari against Jonathan in 2015, says Dasuki

Dasuki maintained that he was only involved in attempting to forge an alliance between the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

While noting that the political process was prior to the 2011 elections, Dasuki added that his involvement ended after the polls.

The former national security adviser described the media reports as works of mischief-makers, adding that he never worked at cross purposes with his former boss.

He said: “At first I found the report too ridiculous to take serious but on second thought, I felt it would be appropriate not only to debunk it but to put the records straight especially in view of politics of mischief and character assassination that are unfortunately the norms today.

Therefore, as NSA between 2012 and 2015, I never campaigned for APC nor its candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, in whatever shape or form before, during or after the 2015 presidential election.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that former Lagos state governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has dismissed insinuations that the dissolution of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC) ended his purported 2023 presidential ambition.

In a statement sent to journalists on Saturday, June 27, the APC national leader said those making the assumptions “have assigned colorful epitaphs to the 2023 death of an alleged political ambition that is not yet even born.”

He continued: “At this extenuating moment with COVID-19 and its economic fallout hounding us, I cannot see as far into the distance as you. I have made no decision regarding 2023 for the concerns of this hour are momentous enough."
