Reports indicate that there is anxiety at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the sudden suspension of 12 directors by the federal government.

Sources told the newspaper that the action against the directors was connected with the ongoing investigation of the suspended acting chairman of the agency, Ibrahim Magu.

However, the affected officials have claimed that they were not directly involved in Magu’s administration.

In another report, some top operatives of the EFCC are now regarded as persons of interest in the probe by the Presidential Committee on Audit of Recovered Assets (PCARA)

In light of this, the federal government has ordered the deployment of security and intelligence agencies at the headquarters of the EFCC in Abuja and all its offices throughout Nigeria.

In fact, This Day reports that the movement and telephone conversations of some persons regarded as “Magu Boys” are being monitored and restricted.

Meanwhile, as the probe of the suspended acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, continues, his offices have been sealed and official vehicles have been withdrawn.

Daily Sun reported that some top staff of the anti-graft commission and directors were also invited for questioning at the resumed probe on Monday, July 13.

The newspaper stated that two official bulletproof vehicles belonging to Magu were withdrawn and returned to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Magu was also reportedly questioned over N2.1 billion funds budgeted for foreign training in three years. According to the report, while no staff was sent for training, the fund could not be accounted for.

It was further gathered that operatives from the Force Criminal Investigation Division (FCID) sealed up Magu’s office at the new EFCC office and his office in Wuse II.

His personal staff were also allegedly prevented from accessing their offices or the floor housing the offices in the two buildings.
