The presidency on Wednesday, July 15, said Nigerians do not need to worry about President Muhammadu Buhari's anti-corruption war.

Legit.ng gathered that the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, noted this amid the ongoing probe against the suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.

Adesina speaking during an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today explained that the investigation will rather strengthen the war.

He said instead of people trying to poke holes in the anti-corruption war, they should rather applaud the Nigerian leader for making a decision that the person who is vital in the fight against corruption is being asked to answer questions.

The presidential aide in reaction to Magu's suspension noted that the investigation had shown nobody is above scrutiny, adding that anybody can be called to answer questions.

Recall Magu was arrested on Monday, July 6, and had been in police custody since then. The suspended EFCC chief is being probed by a presidential panel investigating allegations of corruption and insubordination.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that there has been a massive sweep of senior officials of the EFCC by the presidency following the suspension of its former chairman.

According to presidential sources, the executive secretary of the commission, Olanipekun Olukoyede has been suspended by President Buhari.

Apart from Olukoyede, not less than 11 other top operatives in the agency were also suspended by the president. The source told journalists that the personnel were suspended "for various alleged criminal and corrupt infractions.”

In another report, some top operatives of the EFCC are now regarded as persons of interest in the probe by the Presidential Committee on Audit of Recovered Assets (PCARA).

In light of this, the federal government has ordered the deployment of security and intelligence agencies at the headquarters of the EFCC in Abuja and all its offices throughout Nigeria.

In fact, This Day reports that the movement and telephone conversations of some persons regarded as “Magu Boys” are being monitored and restricted.

In other new, after spending 10 days in detention, the suspended acting chairman of EFCC has finally been released. The embattled EFCC boss was released on Wednesday evening, July 15.
