Nigeria's National Security Adviser (NSA) Babagana Monguno on Tuesday, August 4, revealed President Muhammadu Buhari's decision concerning rampant insecurity in the country.

Monguno, after a high-profile meeting with President Buhari on Tuesday in Abuja, revealed to journalists that the Nigerian leader has resolved to embark on an over-hauling of the nation's security apparatus, The Cable reports.

According to the NSA, the president said that the efforts of the service chiefs are not matching up to expectations, adding that he is all-out to restore the lost confidence of Nigerians in the security sector.

Monguno went on to say that the minister of defence, Bashir Magashi, is already on the issue and will give new directives from the presidency to all security agencies in no time.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that some supporters of President Buhari had condemned the call for the sacking of Nigeria's service chiefs by the Senate and its leadership.

The supporters under the aegis of Coalition of Friends and Supporters of Buhari (CFSB) during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, July 22, described the Senate's call for the resignation of the service chiefs as a display of disloyalty and utter disrespect to the president.

The group said it wanted to use the opportunity to remind the lawmakers that President Buhari is the only person constitutionally conferred with the power to hire and sack the military heads.

The president of the group Musa A. Musa said the lawmakers' action is a disservice to the generality of Nigerians given the enormous commitment displayed by the service chiefs to the nation.

Further condemning the Senate leadership for opting to play politics at the expense of national interest, the president's supporters said the move by the lawmakers is an embarrassment to President Buhari.

Stating that tremendous progress has been made, CFSB said a great level of success has been recorded through innovations and strategies introduced by the service chiefs in tackling the various security threats across Nigeria.
