Adams Oshiomhole, immediate past national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reacted after Governor Godwin Obaseki vowed to "meet violence with violence" should the opposition go haywire during the forthcoming poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the gubernatorial election in the state for September 19, leaving the election a two-horse race between APC and main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking with Arise TV on Monday, August 3, Oshiomhole berated Obaseki for vowing to unleash violence on members of the opposition.

The former APC national chairman's response is also coming on the heels of a clash between the two main political parties at the palace of the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II.
"If they want violence we will give them violence, a leader does not talk like that. All he should say is that those merchants of violence I am pleading with them whether they are in my party or in another party they should take it easy.
"When a leader on live television says we will give them violence, fire for fire, we will (inaudible)" Oshiomhole said.
Earlier before Oshiomhole's response, Governor Obaseki, while addressing the press, said violence will be met with violence because there is no monopoly of it.
"Nobody has a monopoly of violence, if they want violence we will show them violence. We are the only two people who have immunity in this state today," the governor said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Dan Orbih, chairman of the Edo state PDP, has insisted that all the things Adams Oshiomhole said about APC candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, remain true.
In the build-up to the 2016 Edo election, Oshiomhole, who is the immediate national chairman of the ruling party, had targeted Ize-Iyamu who was then the PDP candidate with sorts of disparaging sobriquets.
With new twists and turns highlighting the 2020 Edo guber election, the former APC chair made a U-turn, saying that all he said about Ize-Iyamu was just a mere political gimmick.
