Nigeria got her independence from Great Britain on October 1, 1960.

Recall that the presidency had earlier informed Nigerians that President Buhari will not be using the traditional early morning method of addressing Nigerians on October 1.

A statement signed by Adesina disclosed that the president will only address citizens from the Eagle Square, Abuja and the live address will commence after the anniversary parade at 10 am.

In Lagos, due to the ravaging effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the residents of the state, the Lagos State government has opted for a low-key celebration.

Meanwhile, a former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has expressed deep regrets over the state of things in Nigeria after 60 years of gaining independence.

Speaking with journalists in Benin City, the Edo State capital on Tuesday, September 29, Chief Oyegun said things have gotten really bad, saying it would have been worse if not for the intervention of the current government.

He admitted that due to dwindling resources, there is hunger, terrorism, unemployment and an unstable economy in the land and the leadership is not giving the people much hope for a better tomorrow in the midst of their collective pain.
