EndSARS protest: Military has done well in restoring sanity - Group claims

- The group said the military played a commendable role in restoring sanity across the country during the peak of the #EndSARS protest

- According to the group, the military troops have shown that their loyalty is to the nation's democracy

Nigerians under the aegis of the #March4Nigeria have described soldiers of the Nigerian army and the military as a whole as the heroes of the nation's democracy.

The #March4Nigeria group said the military has always stood up and showed its solidarity to the nation's affairs.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Abuja on Saturday, October 24, the youths led by an activist, Kabir Matazu, said Nigeria would have slipped into a state of anarchy resulting from the #EndSARS protest.

Matazu urged Nigerians to use the events of the past days to reflect deeply on the efforts of the Nigerian military towards ensuring that the nation remains one indivisible and robust entity.

Apologizing to the troops for the scathing attacks and propaganda on its efforts at restoring law and order in parts of the country, Matazu applauded the courage and professionalism displayed by the military in the past days.

Matazu said:

"The recent happenings in Nigeria indeed portend great danger as our dear country went on the brink with the EndSARS protests that were initially peaceful until some elements infiltrated our ranks and hijacked our peaceful protest to their advantage.

He said the military have show its unalloyed commitment to ensuring that those against the interest of Nigeria do not have their way.

He also warned those spreading falsehood against the army to desist from such despicable enterprise in the overall interest of peace and tranquility in Nigeria.

He said:

"It is also said that some of us allowed ourselves to be used by those same elements after the government had accepted the five demands we put forward towards bringing to an end police brutality in Nigeria."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari had on Thursday, October 22, suspended the #EndSARS protest organised by youths across Nigeria.

The president said the suspension of the #EndSARS activities followed the violent outcome of events at various protest ground in cities across the country.

He warned those who have hijacked the protest and Nigerian youths against further action on the excesses of operatives of the now-disbanded police SARS unit.

Also, the federal government through the minister of information, culture and tourism, Lai Mohammed, said that the authorities would not allow the country to be driven into a state of anarchy.
