As the conversation on the 2023 presidency continues to enjoy momentum and prominence across regional and political belts, Nigerian governors, their predecessors and other top party stakeholders are buckling their shoes over party control.

President Muhammadu Buhari has less than three years on power to complete the north's 8-year term having taken power in 2015 with a landslide victory over Goodluck Jonathan.

There are growing yet unconfirmed speculations that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may zone the presidential tickets to the south.

The possibility has opened a room for thorough negotiation with the southwest and southeast showing biceps of political strength on which region produces Buhari's successor.

Reports emerging from the two leading parties in the country - PDP and APC - are now showing that governors are tightening their belts to take control of the party structure against 2023.

Inside sources revealed that serving governors and ex-governors are already holding consultations on forming a hybrid mega party from the two leading parties.

Ministers and serving political office holders are also not taking a deep sleep to determine the party's plans for 2023.

Meetings have been going in both APC and PDP in solidified efforts towards seizing the souls of the parties.

In APC, some governors have succeeded in extending of the tenure of party's national caretaker committee led by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state ahead of the convention scheduled for June 2021.

With the tenure of Uche Secondus also winding down as the chairman of the PDP, governors elected on the party's platform are watching their steps in order to avoid a mistake that may damage the chance of the party.

Tinubu should not contest - Owie

Meanwhile, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC national leader, has been urged to drop the presidential ambition for 2023.

The appeal was made on Wednesday, December 23, by a former lawmaker and Senate chief whip, Roland Owie.

Owie further explained that justice is to allow other regions to produce President Buhari's successor since the zoning arrangement began from the southwest.

Owie argued that for the sake of peace and justice, the southeast should be allowed to produce the next president.

2023: Tinubu's allies launch SWAGA

Legit.ng reported that ahead of the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu was given the nods to succeed President Buhari.

This is as his staunch supporters and loyalists met in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, on Tuesday, December 15, to launch a presidential campaign movement tagged "The South-West Agenda (SWAGA)" for him.
