Afenifere has backed the order by Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, mandating herdsmen to vacate the forest reserves in the state.
The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation called on governors in the southwest region to stand with the Ondo state governor on the issue, The Tribune reported.

Afenifere in a statement through its spokesperson, Yinka Odumakin, criticised the presidency for opposing Akeredolu’s order.
Odumakin accused the federal government of backing the activities of herdsmen to the detriment of other tribes in Nigeria.

The Afenifere spokesperson alleged that Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesperson has been opposed to the formation of Amotekun, a security outfit in the southwest states.

Meanwhile, the Ondo state government has accused the presidency of reacting wrongly to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s order asking herdsmen to vacate Ondo forest reserves.
According to The Punch, the commissioner for information and orientation, Donald Ojogo said a statement by Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesperson criticising the governor’s order was misplaced.
He pointed out that the Ondo government did not ask Fulani to leave the state, clarifying that the governor only asked herdsmen who are unregistered to vacate the forests.
