Ackquille Jean Pollard, US rapper also known as Bobby
Shmurda, has been released from prison.
The 26-year-old regained freedom from New York’s Clinton
Correctional Facility just before 8:30 am on Tuesday.
According to TMZ, law enforcement sources said he will now
be under parole supervision for the next five years until February 23, 2026.
It is understood that his release had come about 10 months
earlier than expected.
Shmurda was initially arrested in 2014 and was charged with
conspiracy to murder, gun, and drug possession.
In September 2016, he pleaded guilty to one count of
third-degree conspiracy and one count of weapons possession and was sentenced
to seven years in prison.
The sentence was later reduced to five years after receiving
credit for the two years he already served awaiting trial.
Shmurda’s parole hearing had initially been scheduled for
August 2020 but was later denied. As a result of his denied parole, he was
subsequently set to serve his full sentence and be released on December 11,
2021.
However, Shmurda’s restored credit for good institutional
behavior qualified him for the early conditional release.
Born in Miami, the rapper signed a deal with Epic Records
after his song ‘Hot Nigga’ peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 in
2014. His debut EP titled ‘Shmurda She Wrote’ was released in November of the
same year.
