Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Friday, March 5, berated the administration of the ex-governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode.

PM News reports that at a ceremony to commission a flyover bridge at Pen Cinema, which was started by Ambode’s administration, Tinubu said the ship of state, under Ambode, was heading in the wrong direction.

Legit.ng gathered that he said the drift became noticeable between 2017-2018.

He said the ugly development led to the decision by political leaders to bring Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Obafemi Hamzat on board.

Tinubu stated that though there was scepticism about Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat, they have not disappointed the people of the state.

The construction of the flyover bridge was achieved despite the setbacks of COVID-19, with the accompanying lockdown and the EndSARS protest last October.

According to the report, Tinubu said he and other leaders are proud that the Sanwo-Olu team is now steering the state in the right direction.

He commended the Lagos cabinet for its various achievements and called the team “great performers and doers.”

In his remarks, the speaker of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has described the just opened 1.4km Agege-Pen Cinema flyover as the result of the robust relationship that exists between the executive and the legislative arms of government.

Obasa recalled how he first moved a motion on the floor of the House and later reintroduced it during the 8th Assembly.

He said following the reintroduction of the motion, the project was supported by the executive arm and added to the budget.

Speaking about the project, Obasa said he was excited, adding that, "this shows collaboration and strong relationship between the executive and legislature in Lagos state."

He said:

"We recognise the doctrine of separation of power but it is not the end if there is no collaboration among the arms of government.
"We enjoy the cordial relationship between the House and the executive and this has brought employment and development to the state."

Citing how the state has further benefitted from the relationship between the arms of government, he noted that the initiative of Neighborhood Watch is an arrangement between the Assembly and the executive.

He added that today the security outfit has employed thousands of people of the state.

Obasa stated:

"This shows that collaboration between the two arms of government can create employment. This relationship among us will continue because any motion that fails to get the support of the executive ends there."

The speaker appreciated Governor Sanwo-Olu and the members of the Assembly for the roles they played which resulted in the completion of the project.

He also thanked Asiwaju Tinubu for laying the foundation for the sustenance of the growth, development and progress of Lagos State.

Obasa described the project as a dividend of true governance as well as the desire of the APC to meet the yearnings of the people.

He also urged the governor to continue to do more for the people of Agege as there is more to be done in the area.

Paying a tribute to Tinubu’s resilience and capacity for survival, Adeyemi said the APC national leader demonstrated high doggedness while serving as an opposition governor during the administration of former president Olusegun Obasanjo.

In a related report, ahead of the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu was given the nods to succeed President Buhari.

This is as his staunch supporters and loyalists met in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, to launch a presidential campaign movement tagged "The South-West Agenda (SWAGA)" for him.

The SWAGA movement, led by former minister of works, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye (Ekiti) and former senator Adesoji Akabi (Oyo), paid a visit to the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.
