There have been a ton of responses going on among residents of Kwara States, most particularly Christians, as the Governor of the state endorsed the wearing of Hijab (Islamic headscarf) for female students in government grant-aided mission schools in the state.

However, the Baptist Conference has reacted to the Governor’s advice on Thursday, saying the Governor gave a wrong advice.

The Church revealed that it had nothing less than 38 schools in the state out of a total of about 316 public schools.

Also, Reverend Victor Dada, who is the President of the Kwara Baptist Conference, under the Nigeria Baptist Convention, revealed in his statement that the state government took a wrong decision by approving wearing of Hijab for all female pupils (which do not exclude Christian schools).

“The state even acted in contempt of court as the case is still on hold before the highest court in the land, which is the Supreme court.”

Moreover, the President on behalf of the Baptist Convention then warn the government of Kwara state concerning its action, saying the step which the government has taken will result into lot if reactions and the end is unpredictable.

He added that, the state government’s action means the Muslim purported rights are superior to that of the Christians.

On his final note, he said what the Baptist Conference is trying to say is that no one, neither the Kwara State Government nor the Federal Government can make wearing Hijab compulsory on the children or on the schools. He said the Conference will not hesitate to use all legitimate means to protect their heritage, and will defend their faith and protect their property.

What is your view about the Kwara State Government’s reaction concerning wearing of Hijab, Even in mission schools?
