List: Tears as Nigerian Army reveals, names, photos of 12 soldiers killed by militia group





The Nigerian Army has released the names and photos of eleven soldiers and one officer, Captain Adeolu Adebayo, who were killed while on a peace mission to the troubled Bonta village in Benue state.

According to the Foundation for Investigative Journalism, listed among the deceased soldiers are one warrant officer, two sergeants, three corporals, one lance corporal, and four privates.

The Nigerian Army stated that the troops were killed on Tuesday, April 6, in the Konshisha local government area of Benue.

Daily Trus reported that the soldiers have been buried at the cemetery at Wurukum in Makurdi.

Meanwhile, the Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, has condoled with President Muhammadu Buhari and the chief of army staff over the death of the 12 military personnel.

The governor promised to collaborate with security agencies to ensure that perpetrators of the act were brought to book.

In a related report, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed reports linking troops to alleged killings of some innocent residents in the Konshisha area of Benue state.

The dismissal by the DHQ was in reaction to reports that troops avenging the deaths of 11 soldiers, killed dozens of people in the state, The Cable reported.

But Onyema Nwachukwu, the DHQ spokesperson, said the reinforcement team went after suspected bandits who killed 11 soldiers.

Still on security, the federal government has said that the country is expected to receive six of the 12 Super Tucanos ordered from the United States in mid-July.

This was disclosed on Tuesday, April 13, by the senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, via a tweet.

Shehu said that 14 Nigerian pilots are currently training with the aircraft at the Moody Air Force Base in Georgia.
