She first fell in love with the country and its people

"What attracted me to him were his eyes. His calm, steady gaze, which exuded so much peace and confidence. I tried to talk to them in Swahili but they seemed to be in a rush," she recalled.

According to Masai Story, the two started talking, and 11 months later, they moved in together.

"In January 2012, Sokoine and I decided to try and build our life at his family's traditional boma. I was not sure if I could make it there, I was not sure if our relationship would work and I knew nothing about his indigenous culture, but I was ready to fight, because I wanted to stay with Sokoine," she wrote on her Instagram post.

Not a bed of roses

Stephanie said she struggled to adapt to the Maasai culture, and at some point, she almost gave up on her marriage.

"It was hard. And more than once, it brought me close to giving up. When our son Yannik was born in 2016, things got so so difficult. Our marriage was so close to falling apart. But I stayed because I knew I had nowhere else to go. Because I knew I would regret leaving," she recalled.

The mother of one has been living in Tanzania for the past 12 years, and she revealed she doesn't regret following her heart.

Stephanie is currently in Zanzibar with her son, and she said she wanted to be out of the village for some time.

"For several reasons, which I cannot share with you just yet, I just need to be away from our village a little. While I am working on some top #secret things, I also have a lot of time to ponder and to be grateful for the life I am living," she said.
