Mother who no longer wants to sleep with her husband says she would pay for him to visit a prostitute
Sara Collins, 46, from Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, said sex between her and her husband Graham Godden, 47, petered out after they had children and now they sleep in separate bedrooms.
She told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on today's This Morning how they used to have sex regularly but they both lost interest after becoming parents to Ella, 15, Jude, 11, Jake, seven.
The couple, pictured with their three children Ella, Jude and Jake, in 2014, said they progressively stopped having sex after they became parents
She said: 'I had a number of miscarriages so when I did get pregnant Graham didn't want to touch me for safety reasons.
'Then when I was breastfeeding he found it inappropriate for us to have sex.'
She said they progressively had less sex over the years and eventually they started sleeping in separate bedrooms when their second son was two nearly a decade ago.
Sara, a pageant coach who enters her daughter and sons into beauty competitions, said sex is not 'at the forefront' of her mind but she still fancies her husband.
The couple in their youth used to have an active sex life but now they have less time to be intimate
Relationship expert Annabelle Knight, left, said couples should make time to have sex and acknowledged that it is natural for men and women to have a lower libido in their fifties as their hormone levels change
She explained that 'finding intimate moments is really difficult' as they don't often get much time alone together as they live with their three children, five dogs and her mother-in-law in a small house.
Holly read a comment from Graham who said of his sex life: 'I have gone past caring, I don't bother asking anymore.'
But Sara said the fact they don't have sex isn't just her choice and both she and her husband agree that sex is not necessary to have a happy relationship as they are still affectionate with one another.
She said she is not worried that he may have an affair as this is something they have discussed.
'We are very open about having an affair. If either of us felt the need to go and have an affair and be intimate with someone as long as we have had that conversation if it fine, we have had that agreement all our relationship,' she said.
She revealed that she once even suggested he visit a prostitute if sex was 'that important to him'.
Sara said she and Graham both agree sex isn't important for a happy relationship and they have discussed having an affair if they feel the urge to be physical with someone else
Sara admitted she once offered to pay for her husband to visit a prostitute because she didn't want to have sex after the birth of her son when she had postnatal depression
Sara explains to presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield that sex is not a priority in her life
Sara said she still fancies her husband and they are affectionate. The pair believe their ability to communicate makes their relationship stronger than having regular sex
She said: 'After I had my second child I had bad postnatal depression and I felt like I was pushing him away. I said to him if the actual sexual act was that important to him I would pay for him to go to a prostitute because it is just sex.'
The pair believe their ability to communicate makes their relationship stronger than having regular sex.
Sara said: 'We have an open, honest relationship, we talk about everything and that is the most important thing.'
According to newly published figures, Sara and Graham are far from unique as one in four couples over 50 in Britain live in sexless marriages.
Relationship expert Annabelle Knight said it is natural for men and women to have a lower libido in their fifties as their hormone levels change but she said they will feel better if they make the effort.
She said: 'It is like going to the gym, you might not feel like it but when you are there you will be glad you went.'
