Overwhelming army presence on streets not welcome - Biti

People's Democratic Party leader Tendai Biti has condemned the overwhelming presence of the members of the military in Harare streets saying they are not welcome as they insinuate a state of emergency.Biti's remarks come amid reports the soldiers were let out of the barracks today as tension escalates in Zanu PF power circles following the dismissal of former vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa who is believed to be having an overwhelming backing of the military.

In a tweet Biti said "The overwhelming presence of the army on our streets is totally unwelcome & reflective of the unraveling of the securocratic State. We all know none of them have the guts to carry out a coup. So army presence should not be the regime s excuse for declaring a State of Emergency."
