We, the Murowa Ward Community would like to air our complaint regarding the conduct, performance and attitude of Murowa Secondary (aka Chinembeure) School teachers. The school has the worst Ordinary level results in Zvishavane district and ranks amongst the bottom 10 nationally. This is not surprising at all considering that the pupils never attend lessons instead they are always loitering snd wondering in the surrounding mountains and at the local shops. The loitering and wondering starts as early as 0700hours and ends at the wee hours of the evening. This has resulted in high cases of pregnancy, school dropout and indiscipline amongst the pupils.
Surely there is no learning or supervision at this school and we wonder if the teachers are on payroll! Yes admittedly the economic situation in the country is not something to smile at but sacrificing kids' future is not the best option. We know morale amongst most civil servants is very low but surely neglecting duty isn't a solution at all. As parents, we feel that our kids are being sacrificed not for remuneration purposes but political reasons. Surely there is a hidden agenda behind this lackadaisical approach which can be summed up as abandonment of duty. Amongst the rotten apples, there is one Geography teacher Mr [name supplied] to be exact who is doing his best and his results speak for themselves. We really appreciate his hard work and efforts!
Most parents who really want their kids to learn have since transferred them to nearby secondary schools meaning being "rural borders" or walking 40km to and from school. Why are we paying school fees and why are these teachers being paid when they are always on strike or never at work at all? We don't know what the relevant minister thinks but there is need for top down supervision. The school inspectors must be seen to be doing their work, right on the ground instead of gossiping hours on end in their offices. Surely, The Second Republic is itching for hard workers, results oriented people and high performers not mere chair-warmers!. This cancer of rewarding non performers especially within the civil service must stop forthwith if we are to progress as a nation. There are plenty of hardworking but unemployed Zimbabweans, who are willing to serve the country. The solution is simple, retire all the dead wood and bring back "Key Result Areas" within the public service.
