Chinyan'anya hounded families off the farm on November 09 after the expiry of a 7 day eviction order.
According to Sibongile Sithole a member of the evicted families, they had been staying at the farm since 2002. She added that the had made incessant attempts to regularise their occupation to no avail.
"We came here in 2002. Ever since we have been applying for leases but our attempts were spurned".
"Political leadership here told us that things were under control " she said. Sithole said they were amazed when they were handed a letter demanding them to vacate the farm.
"We were all waiting to hear from the ministry pertaining our status, until we got an eviction order. Telling us to leave. We don't know where to go,we have been here since 2002.
"By the look of things our applications were turned down to pave way for this new occupant".
According to the victims the district lands officer Onai Sithole Chirandu declared their land vacant and corruptly awarded it to Chinyan'anya.
Commenting on the Southdown estate eviction quandary Claris Madhuku of Platform for Youth Development said the ministry of lands, agriculture, water climate and rural resettlement is evicting people using a cabinet resolution of November 2018 which evoked chapter 20:28 of the Land Consequential Provisions Act.
"This is one of so many cases where people in Chipinge have been arbitrary removed from their land. The lands department is using the November 2018 cabinet resolution on Land Consequential Provisions Act".
"It is evil,where is humanity".
Madhuku added that the ministry is failing to abide by the provisions of section 74 of the construction on 'freedom from arbitrary eviction ".
"The ministry must respect section 74 of our constitution, people want social justice and respect to humanity" he said. As it stands 36 scholars have been affected. Families are said to have been smarting from the ravages of cyclone Idai.
Efforts to get a comment from ward 8 councillor Willard Mnoku were fruitless at the time of going to press his mobile rang without response.
