Khupe apologises for Vanguard atrocities

MDC-T interim leader Thokozani Khupe and allies Saturday visited late party founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai's Buhera home to "formally apologise to the Tsvangirai family about the ill treatment that the old lady suffered at the hands of some youths including the vanguard during her son's funeral".

Khupe recently won a court battle against Nelson Chamisa to head MDC.

She was accompanied by reinstated MDC-T secretary general Douglas Mwonzora, Elias Mudzuri and Morgen Komichi.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Khupe and allies are seen holding hands with the former deputy prime minister praying fervently for Tsvangirai to give them strength in their current fight for party control.

The Khupe led MDC later released released a statement on their trip.

TOP MDC LEADERS VISIT TSVANGIRAI FAMILY

Today top leaders of the party led by Acting President Thokozani Khupe visited Morgan Tsvangirai's mother at her rural home Humanikwa Village in Buhera. The purpose of the visit was to give some items towards the welfare of Gogo Tsvangirai which included foodstuffs. It was also to formally apologize to the Tsvangirai family about the ill treatment that the old lady suffered at the hands of some youths including the vanguard during her son's funeral.

All of Tsvangirai's younger brothers including Collins and Manasa Tsvangirai were also present. During Dr Tsvangirai's funeral some rowdy youths vandalized Gogo Tsvangirai's maize crop, carried posters portraying Gogo Tsvangirai as a monkey and threw a rope to her to "hang" herself. They also assaulted Tsvangirai's young brother Collins. Gogo Tsvangirai said she felt respected by the leaders and thanked them for visiting her.

After the meeting the leaders in the company of the Tsvangirai family members visited Tsvangirai's gravesite where Dr Thokozani Khupe laid flowers. The other leaders present were Morgen Komichi, Douglas Togaraseyi Mwonzora and Elias Mudzuri.
